Just a running mileage update

I want to work out and get back to full triathlon training, but honestly I've lost the drive to do it to the level that I need to.  So, I'm just doing what I want when I want.  Also, I'm doing a running mileage update.

Run mileage since last post: 132.5 miles
Saucony mileage: 171.5 miles

A couple of races

I've done a couple of races this season.  The first was the Lake Pflugerville Triathon back in June.  Here are my splits.

Swim: 10:10 for 500m (2:02/100m)
T1: 1:24
Bike: 41:33 for 14 miles (20.2mph)
T2: 0:59
Run: 25:53 for 3 miles (8:38/mile)
Total: 1:20:01
25/57 in my age group

It was my first race of the season and it was OK.  I did better on the swim than I thought I would and actually the bike as well.  Running, well, it is running for me.  My weight is way heavier than I like so my running is horrible.  The good thing about this race is that it rained for about the last mile on the bike and the first mile of the run.  It felt really good.

I also did Jack's Generic Triathlon today and here are the splits for it.

Swim: 9:01 for 500m (1:48/100m)
T1: 1:44
Bike: 39:09 for 12.9 miles (19.8mph)
T2: 1:05
Run: 25:20 for 3 miles (8:27/mile)
Total: 1:16:21
6/15 in my age group

I went into this race in a bad mood.  But I knew I had some racing to do to work out the frustration.  Just life stuff going on and I didn't feel like talking to anyone.  However, once I got in the water, my attitude changed.  I improved by over a minute on the swim from 6 weeks prior.  This is a pretty significant improvement.  The biggest difference was that I had new goggles so I could actually see where I was going.  In the previous race, I had old goggles that fogged up pretty badly.  I ended up getting off course a bit as well.  Bike was OK; not much to say about it except that I wished I averaged over 20mph.  I actually took about 30 seconds off of my run.  This is a big deal because it was a lot hotter today and I've barely been running lately due to the heat.  The only thing that I can say was that my mental attitude was stronger today and I was pissed off at myself for being such a shitty runner.  Also, I had the fastest T1 in my age group and the second fastest T2.

From this race, I took in way too much sugar (Gatorade) prior to the race.  I had 32oz of Gatorade before the swim and 16oz of Gatorade and 16oz of water would've been enough.  On the bike, I had a bottle of Gatorade which was too much with the previous Gatorade as well.  I should've had one or the other but not both.  I say this because on the run I was worried about puking from too much sugar.  Luckily, that didn't happen but I did down 1-2 glasses of water with each aid station to dilute the Gatorade.

I have 1 more race in September and then my season is done.  I can't wait for the cooler weather so that I can run more and get last fat.
