Sunday

2+ hour aquajog. Boring as fuck. I have the thought in the back of my mind to not do IMFL because of my injury, but I don't want to do it. I want to back out because I want to be completely prepared for my first IM, but then again if I don't do it, pretty much everything that I've worked for over the last 45 weeks has been for nothing. It's just really, really frustrating that I spent 4 years playing ultimate and plagued with injuries and now that I'm doing triathlons, I'm still plagued with running injuries. My goal next year is just to not have any injuries.

Maybe you should take up a new sport :-) Running is probably one of the worst things you can do to your knees, and you already have bad knees. It's funny, I absolutely hate running for that reason - I don't want to be one of those old men who can't walk b/c of knee problems from running. Yet running is my strongest discipline. When I actually try, I can run sub-6 pace for however long I want. Maybe you could be a competitive swimmer or cyclist?

I'm also of the opinion that you don't do something just because you have an investment, if you think it's a bad idea. Like staying married to someone you hate, just because you've been with them for 20 years. If I were you, and you're sure you think it's going to be detrimental to do IMFL and you're not going to compete at the level you want, bite the bullet, pull out of the race and re-evaluate the situation. This isn't the world's only opportunity to do this race or get the level of achievement you're looking to attain. But that's just me. Whatever you end up doing, be smart about it, and good luck :-)

Actually, my knees haven't bothered me much lately, actually since I got into triathlon. They still hurt from time to time, but it isn't the constant aching and popping that I had when I played ultimate. Triathlons have actually helped my knees. Also, my knees aren't the problem now. All the problems that I'm having now is coming from the lower leg stuff. Also, if you do it right, running alone in most cases won't cause old man knees. Doing stuff like basketball and football where there is a lot of cutting will damage your knees much, much more than straight line running IMHO.

After thinking about IMFL for a bit, I've decided that the run is a wash at this point. I'll be extremely happy to do 10 minute miles which will put me at about 4:20 marathon which is somewhat respectable. With all of this aquajogging, I think I can maintain that pace. My plan between now and IMFL is to not run at all. Well, I may get one or two 3 mile runs in the week before to see how my legs feel on the ground, but for the next 7 weeks, I'm going to let my foot heel really well, do IMFL, take a couple of weeks off after that, and then start up my running again. If my foot isn't healed after running only 40 miles in 3 months, I'll be fucking pissed.

6-pack is coming OK. I've dropped 6 pounds in a week once I cut out all the shit in my diet. Now the unhealthiest thing I have in my kitchen is SunChips. I hope to be down to about 174 by IMFL and that's just 5.5 pounds and 7 weeks away.
